Preface To The Eighth Edition

Text

Twenty years ago, the first edition of this work was presented to the profession. It seemed to meet a want ^and fill a special niche in the literature of Homeopathic Materia Medica, for since then seven editions, each one enlarged, Tiave been called for and published. The time elapsed since the last edition was issued is so short that but few additions could be made, but these arc impoitant, embod>ing the results of the experiments and provings of the Hering Research Laboratory of Philadelphia and Professor Hinsdale’s Laboratory experiments at the Ohio University and others that appeared in our periodical litefature. Numeious recent verifications of our older symptomatology have also been incorporated, so that the bo(»k is tlioroughly up to date, offering practically everything that has been Lmnd of proved value m the clinical experience of the school for the past one hundred years. While it unavoidably contains immature observations, it also gives the largest collection of reliable, frequently verified symptoms of all medicines introduced in the Homeopathic Materia Medica. The book is thus additional and supplemental to other works on the subject. I desire to express my appreciation of the great aid given by Dr. Oscar Boericke in seeing the book through the press by his painstaking and careful supervision. In these days of increasing interest in repertorial work, his Repertory should 'receive special attention, for it is concise and admirably arranged and forms a most important part of what, I trust, the profession will continue to find this book to be— a practical handbook of Homeopathic symptomatology for constant use. William Boericke, M. D. Son Francisco, January, 1922.
